Hello,
Our daughter, NJ, is a mechanical engineer currently working with a software firm in Edmonton, Canada.
Ours is a middle class family comprising both of us, a son and Neelanjana. While both of us have opted to settle down in Kolkata, both the kids live in Canada --- the elder brother in Ontario and she in Alberta. With the family having relocated often (Lakwa, Dehradun and Dhahran), we have always lived in multicultural settings and share a moderately liberal worldview. Though not overtly religious, we are paap-bhiru. We do not follow elaborate Hindu rituals, but do celebrate most festivals and visit temples. Education is highly valued in the family, with three of us holding PG degrees (NJ, the only one with an UG degree, did her graduation in 2020). Family discussions, often passionately loud, are encouraged as evidence of independent thinking. Arts, each with his/her own choice, hold a special place in our lives --- singing for her mother, poetry for her father, music for her brother and dancing for her. Visiting new places with friends or relatives is a preferred family urge during vacations.
Our extended family, including both sets of her grandparents, is quite large and, despite limited opportunities of physical family gatherings, most are in regular touch (the cousins more so amongst themselves).
A simple and practical person, NJ radiates a positive attitude towards life. Her beliefs are issue based ---- some traditional (centrality of family in one’s life, self-value system, etc.) and others modern (black lives matter, me too, etc.). Though dancing is her hobby, helping others is her passion. She enjoys her job and intends to continue working post marriage.
About Life Partner Preferences:
We are looking for somebody who finds no contradiction in duality --- one who is moderately liberal in his worldview, but is moderately conservative in personal life; one who has middle class values but upper class aspirations; one who is socially friendly, yet has the tact to cut short an unwanted interaction without displeasing anyone involved; one who lives an Indian life in the North American continent. A dependable person, with a good sense of humour, he should be able to be both a best friend as well as a good husband. Definitely not a single child, he must be hailing from a family with at least two generations of graduates and streaks of artistic inclinations running in the family.
Similarity in religion and caste (as compatibility indicators in terms of things such as food, culture and traditions) is preferable. Parental acceptance and horoscope matching are essential prerequisites.
