Kannada is spoken in India predominantly in Karnataka. The native speakers of the language are called Kannadigas (Kannadigaru) Kannada is the official language of Karnataka and it evolved from Kadamba script. It is the 40th most spoken languages in the world. The Kannada dialect is a mixed dialect with many variants spoken in the different regions of the state. The community is famous for art, sculpture, music, dance, theater and martial arts.
Apart from Karnataka a sizable population of the community is found residing in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. USA, Europe, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Canada, Malaysia, Australia and Singapore are the major foreign countries with presence of community.
Kannada matrimony is a simple and joyous affair in comparison to wedding ceremonies conducted in other parts of India. The social community structure consists of several caste/sub castes, which follow their own style of performing marriages. Some of the rituals of a Hindu marriage in the community are Kashi Yatra, dev karya, mandap puja, Varpuja, Jaimala, mangalashtam, dhare hardu (kanyadaan) and saptapadi.
Just like rituals and customs, the clothing of the bride and groom on each wedding occasion has its own importance. The wedding attire may not be very bold and colorful but they make the bride and groom look extremely beautiful and elegant matching the marriage ceremony perfectly.
Kannada wedding is considered auspicious event and generally does not have very bright and haughty celebrations. The family members of matrimony partners celebrate wedding as the auspicious union of the bride and groom with lots of prayer and faith in God.
