Buddhism is a world religion and philosophy showing the path of salvation has roots in Indian sub-continent where adherents of this religion are known as Buddhists. The religion is based on teachings of Sidhartha Gautama who become Lord Gautama later on. It is one of the dominant religions of South Asian countries like North-East India, Srilanka, Nepal, China and Japan. In India, high denomination they are found in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Ladakh. The concept of karma, rebirth and practice of yoga is known as three jewels has become integral part of Buddhism.
Buddhism includes various beliefs, traditions and practices where marriages are considered to be social affair and not as a religious duty. The marriage rituals and customs are designed to distinguish humans from animals. It is not necessary that both bride and groom should follow Buddhist religion or conversion to either of the religion is not mandatory by law.
The religion does not have specific rules and regulations about marriages, although it suggests that loyalty and faithfulness between the bride and the bridegroom are the most important qualities of happy marriage. The religion is famous for its simplicity and the same is reflected in their marriage also. Typically, marriages are performed in temples in front of Buddha idol which gets solemnized with few religious chants.
