A Muslim is the one who adheres to the religion of Islam. The female form is Muslimah. Muslims are mainly divided into two sects- Sunni’s and Shia’s but Sunni is the largest branch of Islam comprising up to 90% of the total Muslim population of the world. The word "Sunni" comes from the term Sunnah, which refers to the sayings and actions of Muhammad that are recorded in hadiths (collections of narrations regarding Muhammad).
There are several intellectual traditions within the field of Islamic law. As a community, they follow one of the 4 schools of law (madhabs) - Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i and Hanbali.
Nikaah is the wedding ceremony officiated by a priest known as Maulvi or Qazi. Walisas, the parents of both bride and groom, family and friends of the both the sides are the important wedding participants. The marriage is solemnized on the brides acceptance regarding the amount of matrimonial financial endowment known as Mehr.
